The Green Square of the Cape
If you are from Cape Town or simply been here for a visit, you should have made a stop at the Green Market Square. Located ‘around the corner’ from the Company Gardens, the market should be a definite stop for everyone, and especially for tourist
The Green Market Square is the oldest market in South Africa dating back to the days when the ships would make a shop at the coast for fresh stock and slave trade. It has since had a rather pleasant facelift and is well known for being one of the places that need to be visited when in Cape Town.
The market is known for hand made crafts and artworks, but there are so many things on offer that along with your wallet, you should remember to bring along some time for browsing.
The area is surrounded by restaurants and interesting venues such at the Old Town house on the corner of Burg and
Long Market Street. Previously known as a ‘watch house’, it is now the location for the Michaelis Collection, yet another stop to make on your way through town.
If you have not taken the time, it is highly recommended that you head over there right now, or even just take in the buzz as you delight in a little something at one of the surrounding outdoor cafés.
